Mid-Semester Check-In

For those of you who have been keeping up with me or if you’re enrolled in courses at UL Lafayette, you know we’re a little over halfway done with the semester.I wanted to do a mid-semester check in to show how my experience of taking an online course has been for me. The online course I’m enrolled in is English 474 – Document Design.

Your Perfect Study Environment

Continuing with the theme of study habits, I’ve heard from many people and they’ve all had different ideas of “their perfect study environment”. It seems that these environments are different for different people. For example, I enjoy to be in an area where I can have music on. Whether it's on headphones or speakers, I just need music. In my previous blog, I spoke about the music I like to study with. Many people have told me that they need absolute silence to be able to study. There are actually many other qualities of your environment that affect how you handle schoolwork. Different elements can either create positive or negative results.

Fighting Stress

As a college student, a consistent daily routine is not something that we know all too well. From first hand experience, I truly know how hard it is to develop a routine and stick to it. You may be thinking “what's so important about having a routine as long as I’m getting everything done?”

The "Feeling Out" Phase

A very important process that we as students go through with any professor we encounter during college is the “feeling out” phase. The process usually occurs during the first couple of weeks in class. We learn what our professor expects of us and how the class will flow. Learning the expectations of our professor is key to our success. Some professors expect you to be very vocal in class discussions and give your opinion on things.

The Feelings of Becoming a First Time Online Student

So, you’ve got your plan of how many hours you wanna take this coming semester and you FINALLY begin the process of scheduling your classes. The hardest part about making a college schedule is that we have to decide how are we gonna make the rest of our lives work around this schedule. We’ve all got different things going on already. You could be working a part time job, a full time job, have a kid or three, have a spouse, or even have a whole family to worry about!
