Family Nurse Practitioner
Care for a wide range of clients, in multiple settings, across the lifespan, in collaboration with a health care team as a Family Nurse Practitioner, or FNP.
With a focus on prevention and primary care, many FNPs choose to work in health professional shortage areas to increase access to care.
Upon successful completion of the MSN curriculum, students meet educational requirements to take the Nurse Practitioner Role: Family Nurse Practitioner national certification examination, and to apply for an advanced practice license.
To earn the Master of Science in Nursing with a Family Nurse Practitioner concentration, the student must adhere to the following degree plan requirements:
- Earn a minimum of 42-45 credit hours: Family Nurse Practitioner concentration.
- Attain a minimum of 600 precepted clinical hours in Louisiana.
- Satisfactorily complete a Focused Scholarly Project or Thesis.

Earn no less than a "B" grade in all coursework.
- Note: Students who earn less than a "B" grade in a course will be required to repeat that course. A course may be repeated only once. Courses with a grade of "C" may not be applied toward the degree requirements.
